SureSource Insight is a web-based portal that is used to manage and view all the collected data from a clinical trial site. It aims to help monitors and data managers who oversee multiple sites get a better overview, so they can focus on the sites that need the most attention.
Monitors are sponsor representatives who are responsible for the review and validation of the study data. They visit the research site regularly to verify protocol and regulatory compliance. They spend a great deal of time reviewing subject data and regulatory files, as well as validating data. Monitors travel generally every 4 to 6 weeks to multiple trial sites, and with a busy schedule, we wanted to make it easier for them to view the health of each trial site. Some monitors preferred to view their data in a large data table format, but we were increasingly hearing feedback that many thought these tables were overwhelming, and it took too much time to identify problems within the trial.
Our solution was to break down the data table sections into graphical charts that would instantly show trouble spots within the trial. We gave monitors the ability to show and hide cards, and filtering options to remove data from each card that wasn't relevant to them. Monitors can also easily switch between the data table and chart view by utilizing a toggle switch.
While reviewing data, monitors would need to open a subject chart or form as they investigated deeper into the trial data. The old flow to open a patient chart required the chart to open on a new page. Once the monitor was done viewing the chart they would return to a data table and that is where the problems appeared. When a monitor went back to a previous page, the view would have to reload all the table data making the experience feel clumsy and slow. Some data tables even scrolled horizontally, so monitors would lose their spot in the table. We created a subject chart and form overlay solution to solve this problem. With this solution, monitors can quickly peek into a subject chart or form and then quickly return to the section of the data table they were viewing without losing their spot and the page fully reloading. This made the whole experience of viewing a chart or form much faster.
